The Marquette Summer Camp schedule officially tipped off on Monday, with a physically and emotionally draining day for both the campers and the staff, setting the energy level standard for the remainder of the week at an all-time high.

Over 300 campers invaded the Al McGuire Center, hoping for a chance at camp immortality.  Little did this year’s participants know they would be in the presence of hall of famer Heath Joubert, who last year captured the hearts and minds of everyone in attendance with his historic “BUZZer Beater” shot.

Divisional play opened in the afternoon with 5-on-5 contests.  Each division has at least one undefeated squad at the top of the standings, led by David Cubillan’s UCLA team, which posted an impressive 4-0 slate.  Ryan Waddell (Oklahoma) helped his team escape with a one-point win over Memphis, netting the clinching point in overtime via the charity stripe.

Chianti Clay (Greece) captured the daily free throw title for the Olympic division and Danny Smerz (St. John’s) did the same for the remaining three divisions (NCAA/BIG EAST/NBA).
